September Wrap Up

Here are the books that I read in the month of September along with my ratings. This was a pretty good reading month for me I must say and I hope I can keep it up in October.

As you can see fall is a time of really dark reads for me. Even though I live in the south where it’s still 90 degrees lol

Have you read any of these books? If so what did you think?

Book Review: Crazy Rich Asians

Author: Kevin Kwan

Goodreads Description: When New Yorker Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home and quality time with the man she hopes to marry. But Nick has failed to give his girlfriend a few key details. One, that his childhood home looks like a palace; two, that he grew up riding in more private planes than cars; and three, that he just happens to be the country’s most eligible bachelor.

On Nick’s arm, Rachel may as well have a target on her back the second she steps off the plane, and soon, her relaxed vacation turns into an obstacle course of old money, new money, nosy relatives, and scheming social climbers.

My Thoughts: First I have to say I was skeptical of this book because it was everywhere. Whenever a book is overhyped I go into it with caution. I must say I was presently surprised by this book. This book did something that contemporaries rarely do for me and that is read like a movie. It made me laugh, it made me mad, and it made me cry. I enjoyed every minute that I was with this family. I would recommend this book to you if you are someone who enjoys contemporary literature, if you like romantic comedies, or stories about family dynamics. As soon as I finished I went online and purchased the rest of the books in this series. I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars. Have any of you read this book or seen the movie? If so what did you think? Happy reading y’all!!!!

July Wrap Up!

Here’s just a little snapshot of the books I read in July.

I must say July was a really good reading month for me. I also enjoyed the variety of books I read. How was your July? Have you read any of these books and if so what did you think? We’ll see y’all later and HAPPY READING!!!!!

June Wrap Up

June has actually been the slowest reading month for me this year and the 1st time I DNF’d a book this year…… I did not add the book I did not finish to my list because I stopped reading it and I will not be counting it in my books read this month.

With that being said here are the books that I did finish this month. There are a total of 6 books and 1 of those was a re-read for me.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo: Book Review

Author:

Taylor Jenkins Reid

Goodreads Description:

Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one in the journalism community is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?

Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband, David, has left her, and her career has stagnated. Regardless of why Evelyn has chosen her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career.

Summoned to Evelyn’s Upper East Side apartment, Monique listens as Evelyn unfurls her story: from making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the late 80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way. As Evelyn’s life unfolds through the decades—revealing a ruthless ambition, an unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love—Monique begins to feel a very a real connection to the actress. But as Evelyn’s story catches up with the present, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways.

My Thoughts :

Where do I begin……this book was so well written I was entranced from the very first description of Evelyn Hugo. I love the writing style that was so vivid I could literally picture everything. At times I found myself forgetting that this was a fictional character because I would keep thinking to myself I want to watch this or that movie which Evelyn starred in. It was also very creative of the author to actually include “newspaper articles ” about the cast throughout. This was not the story I expected but definitely one that needed to be told. I would recommend this to everyone, I gave it 5 out of 5 stars. Have any of you read this, if so what did you think?
