Book Review: Children of Blood and Bone

Author: Tomi Adeyemi

Goodreads Description: Zélie Adebola remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zelie’s Reaper mother summoned forth souls.

But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, maji were targeted and killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope.

Now, Zélie has one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must outwit and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good.

Danger lurks in Orïsha, where snow leoponaires prowl and vengeful spirits wait in the waters. Yet the greatest danger may be Zélie herself as she struggles to control her powers—and her growing feelings for the enemy.

My Thoughts: I was very excited about this book, I even pre ordered the Barnes and Noble Special Edition. To me it did not disappoint, I loved the family dynamics shown as well as how the female characters found their strength there was no “Prince Charming” character coming to save the day. Also growing up with a protective brother I enjoyed seeing Zelie’ and her brother work out his need to protect her with her need to be independent. All in all I rated this 4 out of 5 stars…..my one issue was a romance in this story that seemed out of place (I don’t want to spoil the story) but it just did not seem like the character would fall for that person. I would definitely recommend this book and I can’t wait for book 2. Have any of you read it if so what were your thoughts? Happy Reading Y’all!!!!
