Author: Joe Hill
Goodreads Description: Locke & Key tells of Keyhouse, an unlikely New England mansion, with fantastic doors that transform all who dare to walk through them. Home to a hate-filled and relentless creature that will not rest until it forces open the most terrible door of them all…
My Thoughts: Well as you all know I’ve been on a “graphic novel” kick lately. I picked up Locke and Key because I figured by the author and the description it would fit with my October spooky reads. I was not dissapointed…. This graphic novel was gory, super creepy, and full of suspense. I am obsessed (I just finished vol 2) I was on the edge of my seat and felt like I was watching a scary movie rather than reading a “comic”. I gave this 4.5 out of 5 stars. If you like horror and graphic novels pick this one up. Happy Reading Y’all!!!!!!
Author: Peadar O’ Guilin
Goodreads Description: Imagine a world where you might disappear any minute, only to find yourself alone in a grey sickly land, with more horrors in it than you would ever wish to know about. And then you hear a horn and you know that whoever lives in this hell has got your scent and the hunt has already begun.
Could you survive the Call?
My Thoughts: So just based on the description doesn’t it grab your attention? Now I read this book in audio form because I was looking for something to listen to on my walks that also fit my October theme. Boy am I glad that Audible suggested I may like this book. I didn’t like it I loved it!!
I loved the diversity in this book, there was a differently abled person as well as LGBTQ represented. It was so creepy that these teens were called and everyone got called it wasn’t a lottery and you didn’t know if it would happen when you are 11 or 18. Also they are alone when they are pulled into this world where time is much slower because you are in the world for hours but only 3mins 4secs pass in our world.
This book had me on edge, you never knew who would be called and what would happen added to the the craziness that was happening in the students day to day life. If you liked Hunger Games, Fae, Folklore, Suspense, Creepiness definitely pick this up. I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars because not only was it entertaining but I also felt it was such an original story. Have any of you read this book if so what did you think? Happy Reading Y’all!!!!!!!

Goodreads Description: No one expects a princess to be brutal. And Lada Dragwlya likes it that way. Ever since she and her gentle younger brother, Radu, were wrenched from their homeland of Wallachia and abandoned by their father to be raised in the Ottoman courts, Lada has known that being ruthless is the key to survival. She and Radu are doomed to act as pawns in a vicious game, an unseen sword hovering over their every move. For the lineage that makes them special also makes them targets.
Lada despises the Ottomans and bides her time, planning her vengeance for the day when she can return to Wallachia and claim her birthright. Radu longs only for a place where he feels safe. And when they meet Mehmed, the defiant and lonely son of the sultan, Radu feels that he’s made a true friend—and Lada wonders if she’s finally found someone worthy of her passion.
But Mehmed is heir to the very empire that Lada has sworn to fight against—and that Radu now considers home. Together, Lada, Radu, and Mehmed form a toxic triangle that strains the bonds of love and loyalty to the breaking point.
My Thoughts: Wow….. I had to gather my thoughts before I posted a review because I was speechless. I know the story of Vlad the Impaler so I was skeptical about a YA gender swap retelling. The author did an amazing job, I forgot all about Vlad and only focused on Lada.
The characters were very well developed and I found myself connecting with not only the main characters but also the side/minor ones. I felt each emotion and loved the writing style. The story kept my attention (I purchased the audio book to listen to on my walk, 3 miles turned into 6 miles lol) and even when there wasn’t fighting the author used those times to give you a better understanding as opposed to just filler chapters. I need the next book NOW!
If you enjoy reading about historical fiction, powerful females, sexism, politics, non traditional love, and coming of age this is the book for you. I honestly feel it has something for everyone and I can’t recommend it enough. Have any of you read it? If so what did you think? I gave this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. Happy Reading Y’all
Hi ya’ll!!! I know I haven’t posted any reviews lately but it’s because I’ve been reading books that aren’t the 1st in the series. Sometimes I struggle with writing non spoiler reviews when it’s a sequel because how do you keep from spoiling a person who hasn’t read book 1? Anyway so here are the books I completed in the month of September.
I only read 3 books but in my defense they were huge lol. I also went ahead and posted my ratings that way if you read the previous book in the series you kinda know if I felt it’s worth it to continue on.
How did your reading month go? Have you read any of these books and if so what are your thoughts? Happy Reading Ya’ll!!!!!
