The Winner’s Curse Book Review

Marie Rutkoski

Goodreads Description
Winning what you want may cost you everything you love…

As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.

One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.

But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart. (less)

My Thoughts

This book was purchased purely as a cover buy, I barely even read the synopsis. It sat on my Nook ebook shelf for a year, then it was recommended to me on Goodreads. I saw the reviews were good and that the second book would be out soon. I placed it on my TBR and purchased the second book with the intentions of reading both. Well as it happens too many times to count other books were released that I had to start instantly or an old purchase tickled my fancy so this book was again forgotten. Low and behold I see the third and final book in this trilogy is set to come out my impulse was to buy it but I made myself a deal I would only purchase it if I at least started the first book. Well let me just say I started this book on April 1st and I finished it the morning of April 2nd……. I loved it!!!!! I enjoyed the plot, the world, the main characters, the love conflict, and the writing style. I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars and I’m kicking myself for not reading it earlier lol. Let me know if any of you have read this book or series and what you thought about it. I would definitely recommend this book. Now to dive into book 2 lol Happy Reading Y’all!!!!!!

I love to read and to discover new books!!!
